FORT MYERS BEACH – The future of Fort Myers Beach Elementary School is uncertain, but the town is determined to save it.
During Tuesday’s Lee County School Board workshop, council members discussed options, including demolishing the school. However, the town of Fort Myers Beach is committed to preserving this island school.
“We have been assured by Dr. Savage that this is not something that’s being seriously considered by them either. This was just a recommendation by the consultants,” said Abigail Eberhart of the town of Fort Myers Beach. “We’re not going to stop this fight. We’re not going to stop today. We’re not going to stop in the future. The beach school is pivotal. It is a cornerstone to this community.”
The town posted a letter today, following last night’s meeting, assuring the community of their efforts to bring back Fort Myers Beach Elementary. Town Manager William McKinney also spoke at the meeting.
The town is waiting for a letter from Superintendent Denise Carlin for clarity on the situation.
WINK News reached out to the school district for comment but has not yet received a response.
