North Carolina star freshman Caleb Wilson sprained his left wrist in the Tar Heels’ loss at Miami on Tuesday night, a team spokesman said Wednesday.
Wilson was injured early in the second half and returned with his left wrist heavily taped. He scored a season-low 12 points in 26 minutes in the 75-66 loss to Miami. Wilson made 4-of-10 shots from the field. In the second half, he appeared to be using his right hand for most shots.
He was on the bench for the final 1:53 of the game.
After the game, UNC coach Hubert Davis said “there is no situation” when asked about Wilson’s injury.
The No. 11 Tar Heels (19-5, 7-4 in the ACC) host Pittsburgh on Saturday. The ACC will release an injury report Friday night.
Wilson, a projected top-5 NBA Draft pick, leads the team in scoring (19.8 points per game), rebounds (9.4 per game), steals and blocks.
Wilson has been named ACC Rookie of the Week three times this season, including last week when he helped the Tar Heels defeat No. 4 Duke at home.
