The Leon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a person was shot multiple times in northwest Tallahassee Wednesday evening.
Deputies responded to the 1200 block of Elm Road off West Tennessee Street at about 5 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found one victim who had been shot.
LCSO spokesperson Javonni Hampton said the injuries were serious. LCSO has identified a suspect, though the suspect is not in custody at this time.
It is not clear if the suspect and victim are known to each other, Hampton said.
“We do not believe this is anything where a person is attempting to threaten anyone else,” she told the Democrat.
No other details, including the gender and age of the victim and the circumstances of the shooting, are available at this time.
The incident remains under active investigation. Detectives are working to identify the individual or individuals involved, the sheriff’s office said.
So far in 2026, there have been at least eight serious shootings in Florida’s capital city and county that left three injured and two dead, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence. The Tallahassee Police Department is also investigating a Jan. 4 homicide, their first of the year, but have not said how the victim was killed.
