TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Florida Capital Bureau) – Florida is one step closer to opening its first black history museum.
The Senate approved a bill Wednesday to create the museum’s directors and board members.
The bill says that these members would not hold any state or elective office while on the board.
The museum was voted on in 2023 by the state legislature.
Florida Politics:
Darryl Ervin Rouson, D-St Petersburg, commented on the legacy that the museum will cement.
“It will ensure that future generations do not inherit fragments of history, but a full inheritance of history, of the truth,” He said.
The Florida Museum of Black History will be built in St. John’s County.
Specifically, on the former campus of Florida Memorial University in St. Augustine.
