TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A new candidate has filed for election in Florida’s 2nd Congressional District.
Republican Audie Rowell announced his candidacy last week. In the primary, he will face Florida GOP chairman Evan Power, Nick Lewis, Keith Gross and Austin Rogers.
The congressional seat is currently held by Republican Neal Dunn, but the Congressman announced that he is withdrawing his re-election bid. Dunn said he is passing the torch to spend more time with his family.
In an announcement on Facebook, Rowell said his goal is to make sure “the American citizens of the 2nd congressional district receive the representation they deserve.”
“I will strongly focus on the values our country was founded upon, that being our Christian/family families, constitutional values, capitalistic values and our constitutional republic values,” the post continued.
Rowell is a sixth generation Floridian and has roots in Taylor County.
He was raised in Tallahassee and served in law enforcement in Leon County. He most recently served as the Chief Deputy in Walton County before his retirement.
Yen Bailey, Amanda Marie Green and Nic Zateslo, all Democrats, have also filed to run for the District 2 seat, according to the state elections database.
