Lawmakers pushing to improve services for Floridians with developmental disabilities

  • February 12, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Florida Capital Bureau) – Florida lawmakers are pushing for more support to serve people with disabilities.

They want to see the iBudget Waiver program move more efficiently.

The Medicaid program provides community services for Floridians with developmental disabilities. Some of these services include behavioral analysis services, occupational therapy and dietitian services, among others.

Families say that delays and cancellations of these services have made life more difficult.

Sen. Tracie Davis, D-Jacksonville, said the legislature should address these delays.

“Navigate a complicated system or how long a family can hold on without help our responsibility is to make sure that systems meant to serve them are strong responsive and funded properly,” she said.

State data shows more than 20,000 people are waiting to get in the program, with many waiting more than a decade.

As of 2025, 35,997 people are enrolled in the program.
