On Feb. 6, and Feb. 7, three Leon County boys basketball teams won a district title in their respective classification with Leon winning the 5A District 2 tournament, Godby winning the 4A District 2 tournament and FAMU DRS winning the 1A District 1 tournament.

Leon – 5A District 2

On Feb. 7, The Leon Lions faced off against the Gainesville Hurricanes in the 5A District 2 final after recieving a bye in the first round and beating Columbia in the semi-final with a score of 56-41. After a shocking upset on the other side of the bracket, Gainesville beat the top seeded Lincoln Trojans 52-47 to advance to the final against the Lions.

Although Gainesville got off to a better start, Leon outscored Gainesville 33-22 in the second half to complete the comeback and win the district title game, 58-50. The Lions were led by DeKendrick Williams (Sr.) who led the team with 29 points including six 3-pointers. Williams shot 75% behind the ark along with six rebounds and one assist. Other notable performances from the Lions included Keon Green (Jr.) with 12 points and Elijah Knight (Sr.) with 10 points.

Godby – 4A District 2

With only three teams competing in the 4A District 2 tournament, Godby received a bye during the the first round while Rickards beat Wakulla with a convincing score of 68-29. In the third matchup of the year, Godby beat Rickards with a score of 53-31 to claim back-to-back district titles and advance to 18-6 on the season.

Jaden Staten set the pace, scoring consistently as Godby opened a 19–5 first-quarter lead. Rickards answered behind Calvin Thomas and Gary Scott in the second quarter, but baskets from Jason Brown and Kejuan Nealy kept Godby ahead 27–18 at halftime. The game stayed in the Cougars favor, with Staten and Lazarus Chambers fueling a strong third quarter. Godby continued to extend the lead in the fourth, sealing the win behind Staten’s 21 point performance.

FAMU DRS – 1A District 1

After beating Community Christian School (CCS) in the semi-final round of the district tournament with a score of 71-37, FAMU DRS upset the No. 1 seeded L.E.A.D Academy 73-57 to win the district title. Advancing to 12-14, the Baby Rattlers will face off against Eagles View in the first round of the FHSAA 1A state tournament on Feb. 14th.
