TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida State Parks is offering free admission from Friday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 16 in honor of George Washington’s birthday and America’s 250th, according to a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) press release.
The department is encouraging people to “explore the places where history unfolded,” per the release.
The free admission is for day-use only and excludes the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park and Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park.

According to DEP website, Florida has 175 state parks that span across more than 815,000 acres. The parks have numerous activities for outdoor recreation and also forts and frontier settlements that celebrate Florida’s cultural heritage.
DEP Secretary Alexis A. Lambert said the parks provide an immersive historical experience.
“As the nation reflects on 250 years of independence, Florida State Parks invite visitors to experience history not just through exhibits, but through the landscapes themselves,” Lambert said.
“Our parks offer meaningful connections to the people and events that shaped our nation.”
The Florida DEP said the parks below explore Revolutionary War-era connections.
Big Talbot Island State Park and Fort George Island Cultural State ParkPaynes Prairie Preserve State ParkTomoka State Park. San Marcos de Apalache Historic State ParkFernandina Plaza Historic State Park, Amelia Island State Park and Fort Clinch State Park
