Parents at Cape Coral High School are advocating for the return of former football coach Tyler Murphy, who resigned amid allegations of having sex with a parent on campus. Parents at Cape Coral High School are rallying behind former football coach Tyler Murphy, who resigned on Sept. 10 after the Lee County School District said he was informed he was under investigation for allegedly having sex with a mother in the school’s locker room.”This drama is affecting our kids,” said Lu Lopez. “This is where we call the district to say, why are we at any one person stress our kids, stress the whole program.”Parents have been seeking more information regarding Murphy’s resignation. Mike Ogrodzinski, another parent, said, “We want everyone that’s involved to be heard and we want answers. I think it’s gone on long enough. We want our coach back. The kids want our coach back, the coaching staff wants our coach back.”The school district stated that Murphy resigned during his probationary period as a new employee after being informed of the investigation. A mother had presented text messages detailing plans to meet Murphy on campus for sex, which were verified by phone records. However, Murphy claimed he was unaware of any investigation.”I wasn’t told that I violated any policy or, or any rules, no criminal activity or anything of that nature,” Murphy said in September during an exclusive interview. “I was blindsided and, and felt ambushed.”The district alleged Murphy himself verified the texts. In September, Murphy denied the allegations of sexual relations on school grounds, stating, “No. None of that is true.”Some parents have reviewed the text messages after obtaining files from the district. Lopez said, “We have the records, we studied the records, and so far there is nothing that proves any actions there besides text messages between two adults.”Parents and football players showed their support for Murphy at a recent school board meeting.
