If you’re trying to escape the never-ending loop of coffee shop recommendations and a disappointing $7 latte, Calvin’s Coffee House is the place you’ve been looking for. This hidden FSU gem offers a unique spin on your typical campus cafe. As a non-profit, Calvin’s prioritizes people over making a quick buck, keeping drinks affordable while fostering a welcoming, community-first environment.

Calvin’s Coffee House is tucked away in the basement of UKirk Tallahassee, right off of Copeland Street. Since they’re located just steps from Westcott Fountain, students can quickly stop in between classes without going out of their way. It can easily become your everyday staple, despite your busy schedule.

They serve anything from lattes to refreshers, and even recently added popping boba to their menu. With their vast selection of drinks, you’re bound to try and eventually find the perfect drink for you. Every month they release a new signature recipe, with this month’s being the love bug and the love buzz, your choice of a lemonade or latte with a cherry twist.

If you’re looking to raise money for your organization, you can request to have a fundraiser drink at Calvin’s. They offer one fundraiser drink a month, in which your organization can concoct its own specialty drink. Every purchase of the drink goes towards the organization and its cause, providing an excellent opportunity for outreach and fundraising for clubs on campus.

What sets Calvin’s apart from every other on-campus coffee shop is their commitment to community. Their neighborly presence in the FSU atmosphere is unlike any other. Every staff member is a student who understands the realities of juggling classes, deadlines, and everyday stress. That’s why, for syllabus and final exam week every semester, they offer free drip coffee to all guests.

Beyond the drinks, Calvin’s offers a cozy and welcoming space to relax and recharge between classes. It’s a great spot to study, catch up with friends, or simply unwind. On Mondays (and sometimes Fridays), Calvin’s also offers free food on a first-come, first-served basis, making it a great place to stop by for a quick bite to eat.

Not only do they provide free food at Calvin’s, but UKirk hosts a free dinner every Thursday at 6 p.m. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a chance to meet new people, build connections, and feel at home on campus. It’s every college kid’s dream, and something you won’t get at any other coffee shop.

Calvin’s Coffee House also keeps the energy alive by hosting an event every week. Every Tuesday, the shop stays open until 8 p.m. to host activities ranging from pop-culture trivia nights to creative events like open-mic and cabaret nights. Musicians, poets, and performers are encouraged to come and present their own pieces and make Calvin’s their supportive space to share their talents.

Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur or just looking for a place to hang out on campus, Calvin’s is the place for you! It’s more than just a coffee shop; it’s a space that thrives on connection, generosity, and comfort. It’s time to outgrow the long lines at Starbucks and try your new favorite on-campus coffee shop. It’s time to become a regular at Calvin’s Coffee House.
