CAPE CORAL, Fla.—A political feud led to projectile food at Four Mile Ecological Preserve in Cape Coral after a man was arrested for launching a cupcake at a city employee.
The incident occurred on January 15, when a City of Cape Coral employee reported a man had thrown a cupcake at him after a verbal dispute about politics.
The alleged thrower, David Sternal, 59, was found at a nearby gazebo, with frosting on his person, claiming the city employee threw the cupcake at him.
Cape Coral police responded to the incident and conducted an interview with Sternal. According to police, his speech and behavior were disorganized, prompting a Baker Act investigation.
Sternal confirmed with law enforcement that he was aware of his surroundings and did not have any intent to harm himself or others.
The city employee chose not to press charges against Sternal; however, at the request of a Parks and Recreation supervisor, he was formally trespassed from the preserve before leaving the area without further incident.
Sternal was taken into custody, where he faces the following charges: criminal mischief for damage to property over $1,000 and a weapon offense for a missile into a dwelling.
