ORLANDO, Fla. — The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) discussed Thursday a potential agreement with Seminole County that would help fund a State Road 417 connector road to Orlando Sanford International Airport.

The proposed project would include a 2-mile stretch of road that is intended to help ease traffic concerns both now and in the future. However, officials have had difficulty securing funding, and there has been little community support.

Central Florida Expressway Authority held its February board meeting Thursday where they discussed an agreement with Seminole County for funding of the State Road 417 connector road to Orlando Sanford International Airport

The project was approved back in October, but the total price is around $200 million and CFX still needs to secure funding and conduct an environmental study before moving forward

The project would impact more than two dozen parcels, with eight of them being residential properties, which has caused some backlash from the people who would be affected by the project

Despite a lot of opposition from residents, CFX approved the connector road project back in October 2025

With a $200 million price tag, the connector road project is moving forward after CFX board members unanimously approved it in October. But a lack of funding has slowed progress on the road project.

Officials say the connector from State Road 417 to the airport would reduce traffic on East Lake Mary Boulevard by 46%. But the whole project would have a direct impact on about 25 parcels of land, including eight residential properties.

While many residents have come out against the connector road project, some have said they understand the need for some type of traffic relief in the area.

If the agreement between Seminole County and CFX is approved, it will provide funding to allow the connector road project to move into the design phase.
