Last month, music lovers from around the area gathered at Crossbridge Church and stood, literally, witness to a magical performance by Russian pianist Ilya Itin.

This month, the Key Biscayne Piano Festival continues its season with another internationally acclaimed artist, welcoming German pianist Jonas Aumiller to the Island.

Aumiller’s performance will begin at 7 p.m., on Friday, at the Key Biscayne Crossbridge Church, with wine and light refreshments offered starting at 6 p.m.

The concert will last one hour with no intermission, and will include a Q&A session with the artist after the show. Seats will be on a first-come/first-served basis.

Aumiller, first asked his parents for piano lessons at the age of three, a young Aumiller recalls “its completeness as an instrument that made me fall in love with it.”

He formed his classical training with Massimiliano Mainolfi at the Conservatorio F.A. Bonporti in Trento, Italy, then with Sergei Babayan at The Juilliard School (graduate diploma) and also studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music (master’s and artist diploma). He has a lengthy list of competition accolades, including winning the prestigious 3rd International Brahms Competition.

With plenty of experience transcribing orchestral and organ works for piano, Aumiller looks forward to bringing his special touch to Key Biscayne audiences.

“I am convinced there is nothing quite like the shared experience of an audience listening to a piece of music live, experiencing its emotional journey together and yet perceiving it in a unique and personal way,” Aumiller writes.

Here are his carefully-crafted program selections for the night:

F. Chopin: Prélude in C-sharp minor, Op. 45 / Barcarolle in F-sharp major, Op. 60

J. Brahms: Six Piano Pieces, Op. 118

R. Schumann: Romanze in F-sharp major, Op. 28, No. 2

F. Liszt / J. Aumiller: Symphonic Poem No. 3, “Les Préludes”

The Key Biscayne Piano Festival, in collaboration with the Miami International Piano Festival, will be holding an additional piano concert at the Key Biscayne Crossbridge Church on March 13.
