Jacksonville, FL (October 21, 2025) – A bicyclist was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash Monday evening on the 4400 block of Hodges Blvd, prompting a fatal traffic investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO). The collision occurred around 7:15 PM and has since been confirmed as Duval County’s 138th traffic death this year—and the eighth fatal crash involving a bicyclist.

Authorities say the victim, described as a white male in his late 20s, was heading north on Hodges Blvd when he was hit by a dark-colored SUV. The vehicle did not remain at the scene and fled immediately after the impact. JSO is working to identify both the driver and the make and model of the vehicle involved.

When Jacksonville Fire and Rescue arrived shortly after the incident, the man was tragically pronounced dead on site. Investigators have begun reviewing nearby surveillance footage and are urging the public to come forward with any relevant information. As of now, no arrests have been made.

Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.

Bicycle Accidents in Florida

Tragic collisions involving bicyclists are a growing concern across Florida’s urban and suburban roadways. The fatal crash on Hodges Blvd underscores the dangers riders face, particularly when sharing fast-moving corridors with large vehicles. Hit-and-run incidents only amplify the harm, leaving families with unanswered questions and victims without aid.

Duval County has now recorded eight bicycle-related deaths in 2025 alone, pointing to a need for stronger safety measures, both in infrastructure and in enforcement. Hodges Blvd, a busy arterial road connecting neighborhoods to commercial centers in Jacksonville, is not currently equipped with protected bike lanes throughout its length—a factor that often leaves cyclists vulnerable to passing traffic.

This case also highlights the ongoing crisis of hit-and-run crashes in Florida. Leaving the scene of an accident, especially one involving a fatality, is a felony under state law. But despite strict penalties, such incidents continue to rise. The community is left mourning yet another preventable loss.

Authorities encourage drivers to remain vigilant and share the road responsibly. Likewise, improvements in lighting, bike lane visibility, and public education could help reduce the risks bicyclists face in areas like Jacksonville’s Southside.

As the investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues, anyone with information is urged to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers. Seeking justice for victims begins with community cooperation and accountability.
