TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) -The Florida House released its budget proposal late Thursday, proposing the state spend $113.5 billion.
The proposal represents a decrease from the current budget of $117.4 billion.
Historically, the House and Senate release their budget proposals at the same time. However, the Senate has delayed its release until next week at the earliest.
In a memo to senators Thursday afternoon, appropriations chair Ed Hooper said they were waiting on the House and won’t release their budget until next week. Hooper has said the Senate has been ready to release its proposal.
The delay comes as lawmakers are more than halfway through this year’s legislative session without agreement between the chambers.
More Florida politics:
Last year’s legislative session went 105 days after disagreements over the budget. The legislature’s only constitutional obligation is to pass a balanced budget.
Editor’s Note: This was updated to reflect releasing their budget proposal late Thursday.
