Commissioner Hazelle Rogers
LAUDERHILL – Broward Commissioner Hazelle Rogers will commemorate 30 years of distinguished service as an elected official. The commemoration includes a full-day community celebration tour across five cities within her district on Wednesday, March 12.
Commissioner Rogers made history as the first Jamaican elected official in Southeast United States. She paved the way for greater representation and leadership within the region’s diverse communities.
Over the past three decades, she has been a dedicated advocate for economic development, community empowerment, and cultural inclusion.
Community Celebration Tour
This milestone celebration will highlight the communities and local businesses that have been integral to her three decades of leadership.
Throughout the day, Commissioner Rogers will visit restaurants in Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Oakland Park, Plantation, and Sunrise. At each stop, she will be welcomed by city officials, community leaders, and residents.
The tour will begin at Spoons Restaurant in Lauderdale Lakes at 8:00 AM. The establishment is also celebrating its own 30-year anniversary — marking a meaningful shared milestone between public service and local entrepreneurship.
Additional stops throughout the day will showcase the diverse culinary traditions that reflect the vibrant cultural fabric of the district. These include African American, Jamaican, Haitian, Trinidadian, Latin, and other Caribbean cuisines. Furthermore, expect a surprise stop between 9:30am – 10:30am.
The celebration will conclude with an evening reception at Donna’s Restaurant in Lauderhill at 6:00pm by invitation only.
Charitable Donation
In honor of this milestone, Commissioner Rogers is also encouraging community support for charitable causes close to her heart. A donation sign featuring a QR code will be displayed at each stop. This will allow residents and supporters to contribute directly to selected nonprofit organizations.
“For 30 years, serving our communities has been both an honor and a responsibility,” said Commissioner Rogers. “This celebration is not only about reflecting on the past, but about continuing the work that strengthens our cities, county, state and at the national level that uplifts our people.”
