Broward County schools honor Parkland victims with ‘Day of Service and Love’

Classrooms across Broward County marked a “Day of Service and Love” Friday, turning heartbreak into hope as they honored the 17 people killed in the Feb. 14, 2018, shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.At Deerfield Beach Elementary School, students and staff observed a moment of silence at 10:17 a.m., pausing to reflect on the lives lost in those moments nearly eight years ago.“Kindness can’t be changed because there’s no limit,” student Stephanie Grant said.The school’s hallways were lined with colorful cutouts, drawings and handwritten messages of encouragement as students created what educators called a “Path to Kindness.” It’s a visual reminder that small actions can make a lasting difference.“Just one message at just the right time can change someone’s entire day, outlook and life,” art teacher Suzanne Devine Clark said.District leaders said the annual observance is meant to carry forward the legacies of the 17 victims through compassion and action, emphasizing that even after loss, acts of love can still lead the way.Stay up to date: The latest headlines and weather from WPBF 25Get the latest news updates with the WPBF 25 News app. You can download it here.
