An investigation is underway in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday after an officer was forced to fire their weapon, authorities said.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police, the shooting happened near Chateau Park Drive and Northwest Ninth Avenue.

The suspect involved was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

It’s unclear what the suspect was doing or what prompted the officer to fire their weapon.

No other injuries were reported, and there is no threat to the community, police said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is expected to take over the investigation, which is standard whenever there is an officer-involved shooting.
