BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — Get ready, South Florida! Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman is heading your way to share his passion for jazz and blues during the exciting Beatles on the Beach Festival.

Freeman recently chatted with CBS12 News reporter Katie Bente in an exclusive interview about his upcoming performance and the journey that led him to this moment.

Born and raised in Mississippi, the blues have always been a significant part of Freeman’s life. But what inspired him to embark on this blues experience tour now?

“It just kind of happened,” Freeman explained. He reminisced about an encounter with a couple looking for a place to enjoy some live blues music. Realizing there was no easy answer for them, he decided it was time to create a space for the blues in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the heart of blues country.

While this will be his first visit to Boca Raton, Freeman has performed nearby in West Palm Beach and Miami.

He’s excited to engage with local aspiring musicians and has some simple yet profound advice: “If you want to do something, go for it. The key is to really want it!”

“I just want people to feel they got their money’s worth and to leave happy,” he said.

In addition to the music, Freeman is passionate about giving back. He co-founded the Ground Zero Arts Foundation, which aims to support local artists and keep the arts alive.

He shared a heartwarming story about talented musicians, like Kingfish, who trained at local music schools and are now teaching the next generation.

The event is set for Saturday, March 14, at Mizner Park Amphitheater in Boca Raton.
