ORLANDO, Fla. — The big story today is the rain and storms expected later this evening. A cold front is moving toward the area, bringing some much needed rainfall. Most locations should stay dry through the morning and early afternoon with highs in the lower 80s. Winds will increase ahead of the front with sustained winds around 15 to 20 mph and wind gusts up to 25 to 30 mph. A wind advisory is in effect for Marion and Flagler counties for today.
By late afternoon, rain chances will increase as a line of showers and storms approaches the area from the northwest. For Daytona 500, the rain looks to hold off until after the race, but could impact your drive back home. Parts of Central Florida are under a marginal risk for severe storms and Marion County under a slight risk for severe storms. The primary impacts will be strong gusty winds, lightning and a low-end tornado risk.
