Emergency crews battle yet another brush fire fueled by dry, windy conditions, threatening structures amid a county-wide burn ban and ongoing drought.

WIMAUMA, Fla. — Fire rescue crews have been working to contain flames since 3 p.m. in the southern part of Hillsborough County.

On Sunday, a trail of smoke is visible in Wimauma as Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service have been trying to control a fire that has already burned through one acre of land.

The fire burned past the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church and Cemetery, 10 Tampa Bay News learned while on the scene of the incident.

Emergency crews have been using brush trucks, bulldozers, and engines to contain the flames. They managed to keep the flames from the church building, but a nearby outbuilding was destroyed, officials said.

This is yet another fire that has burned through the area over the last week.

Dry weather, lack of rain, and windy conditions have contributed to brush fires raging through the county over the last week.

Counties across the Tampa Bay area are still under a burn ban and under drought conditions. Burn bans in the area prohibit most outdoor burning activities.

This is a developing story.
