ADULT PROGRAMS

– Feb. 24: Online Author Event with Tom D. Crouch from 2 to 3 p.m.

Join Smithsonian historian and author Tom D. Crouch for a look at the Smithsonian’s early years. Based on his book, “Smithson’s Gamble,” the program will explore how a small, curiosity-driven institution grew into the world’s largest museum and research complex — shaping fields from conservation to science and helping define America’s national identity. Crouch joined the Smithsonian in 1974 and has held curatorial and leadership roles at the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of American History. An award-winning author, his honors include a Christopher Award for “The Bishop’s Boys” and the AIAA Gardner-Lasser Prize for “Wings: A History of Aviation.” In 2000, Crouch was appointed by former President Bill Clinton to chair the First Flight Centennial Federal Advisory Board. The event is part of the Online Author Events Series. Registration is required.
