The Miami Dolphins’ time with star wide receiver Tyreek Hill is now over.

Hill is being released by the team, according to a league source on Monday morning, as new Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has begun a purge of the roster as previously constructed under ex-GM Chris Grier.

Hill, who turns 32 on March 1, was cut along with outside linebacker Bradley Chubb, offensive guard James Daniels and wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine on Monday, according to a source.

The eight-time Pro Bowl and five-time All-Pro wide receiver Hill, who was prolific on the field but often faced trouble off the field now becomes a free agent.

He is also rehabbing a gruesome dislocated knee injury from what now goes down as his final game with the Dolphins, Sept. 29 against the New York Jets.

Cutting Hill was always expected this offseason, even before the injury. The Dolphins stand to save nearly $23.9 million toward the salary cap with his release.

Hill was acquired via trade with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2022 offseason after the Dolphins had hired now-former coach Mike McDaniel. In McDaniel’s offense and mostly with Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback, Hill had 340 receptions for 4,733 yards and 27 touchdowns in three-plus seasons in Miami. His fourth season was cut short four games in.

Also accounting for his six previous seasons with the Chiefs, Hill has 819 career catches for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns. He won a Super Bowl with Kansas City, which was played in Miami in 2020. Immediately following his trade to the Dolphins, the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls.

After a standout 2023 season in which Hill led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards, Miami, under Grier, added guarantees to his contract for the aging speedster. His production dipped in 2024 as he failed to reach 1,000 yards (959) for the first time in a fully healthy season since his rookie year in 2016. That year, he also missed the Pro Bowl for the first time. The devastating knee injury followed early in 2025.

While known for getting open deep with his blazing speed, scoring long touchdowns and flashing the peace sign as he ran away from opposing defenses, Hill was at the heart of ample drama away from the gridiron while with the Dolphins.

Last October, in court documents from divorce proceedings with wife Lakeeta Vaccaro, Hill was accused of shoving his wife on the floor, ripping her hair out and trying to punch her stomach while pregnant, among eight allegations of physical abuse in their marriage. Hill has denied those accusations.

It wasn’t the first time his marriage was in the news for abuse allegations. In January 2024, Davie police went to Hill’s home after Vaccaro told them Hill “smashed” an unlit cigar into her face. It happened around the time an initial divorce petition was filed, denied and withdrawn.

Hill was sued by an online model on accusations of breaking her leg when he had her and her son over to his house to instruct the son on football drills.

He also allegedly slapped a marina employee in the 2023 offseason.

He had a fire at his house early in January 2024, causing him to leave practice ahead of the 2023 regular season finale to attend to the matter.

The 2024 season for the Dolphins started with him being detained outside Hard Rock Stadium for a traffic stop that got heated between he and a police officer before he played in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars that afternoon.

That season ended with a locker-room outburst in January 2025, in which Hill said he wanted out from the team upon the Dolphins’ elimination from postseason contention in their finale against the Jets. He later walked back those comments and worked to rebuild his relationship with teammates ahead of the past season.

Upon the release of four veterans Monday, the next major offseason question is what happens with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who survived Monday’s cuts. With a would-be record-breaking dead cap hit of $99.2 million associated with his release, the Dolphins are expected to look for a trade partner first.
