After a portion of the outside area of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was filled with concrete, a layer of dirt has been added above it. The Magic Kingdom ride is undergoing a major overhaul and has been closed since last summer.

Over the past week, concrete had been poured into the wooden forms. Once the concrete had solidified, the forms were removed, leaving an oblong block of concrete with electrical conduit sticking out of it, and a thin trench in the center.

We don’t know exactly what will go on this base, but it’s clearly for some kind of new entrance structure, as all of the old infrastructure has been demolished. The layer of dirt has been added everywhere but on the shape, suggesting this might be where a new marquee will be located.

Most of the pavement in front of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been removed. The wooden beams may indicate how the pavement will be split up.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is scheduled to reopen this spring with new ride vehicles, handheld blasters, and interactive targets.
