Call cruelty by its name
I noticed Ryan Gillespie, in the Feb. 14 story “As feds eye a potential Orlando ICE facility, records show detainees might stay for 7 days,” put “processing centers” in quotes.
Please normalize calling these places what they really are: internment camps.
They aren’t prisons, holding areas or facilities. Use the words: Internment camps
Those words bring to mind the vile conditions which fit their nature and shed light on the nature’s of those who believe they are “processing centers.”

The rules of the road
I’ll never forget the day I read about that illegal immigrant truck driver who carelessly made a U-turn on the Floridae Turnpike, killing a family. It was also hard to watch his seemingly I don’t care attitude after it happened.
So when the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles announced they were revoking commercial truck driver’s licenses issued to illegal immigrants, and not providing the commercial driver’s license test in any language besides English I applauded this decision. However, I also wondered why this rule didn’t apply to anyone applying for a regular driver’s license as any motorized vehicle can have the same deadly consequences if the driver doesn’t understand how to read signs and understand English accurately.
Thankfully, the wonderful leaders of our great state of Florida have corrected this problem. Hopefully this will force those living in Florida to learn English. However, too many businesses make it too easy for folks not to learn English by posting signs in Spanish. In my opinion, when one comes to another country, it’s an insult to not try to learn the language of the land and assimilate.
