PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A 41-year-old Jacksonville man was killed in a crash on State Road 20 in Palatka early Wednesday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said a 30-year-old Green Cove Springs woman was traveling eastbound on SR-20 near Motes Road at 3:25 a.m. when the Jacksonville man ran across the eastbound lanes.
FHP said the woman “took evasive action” in an attempt to avoid a collision with the man, but was unable to.
As a result, FHP said the woman’s vehicle, a white sedan, struck the man in the left eastbound lane of SR-20.
According to FHP, the woman stopped along the left shoulder of SR-20, while the man came to final rest on top of the woman’s car.
The woman and an 11-year-old boy, who was a passenger of hers, suffered minor injuries in the crash, FHP said.
All eastbound lanes of SR-20 in the area were closed for hours due to the crash.
