TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida A&M University and Tallahassee State College will now have seats at the table regarding the Florida State University and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare merger involving an academic health center.
During a press conference held by Rev. Dr. RB Holmes, pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, late Wednesday morning, Florida State President Richard McCullough announced that FSU and TMH have reached memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with FAMU and TSC.
The memorandums will “articulate the opportunities to expand collaboration, enhance academic programs, and elevate research and form centers of excellence,” President McCullough said.

Additionally, the president said FAMU and TSC “will be included in the governance structure and be included in numerous other standing and ad hoc committees.”
The MOUs are expected to be signed in the next few days, according to McCullough.
The announcement comes hours before a second public hearing on the proposed merger is scheduled to take place Wednesday evening.

During the first public hearing earlier this month, the Tallahassee City Commission discussed considering selling TMH and voted 3-2 to authorize the city manager to negotiate a potential sale of the capital city’s only nonprofit hospital to FSU.
The two critical meetings were scheduled after FSU and the hospital reached an agreement to create an academic health center and transition TMH’s brand to “FSU Health.”
The second meeting is expected to take place Wednesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
