All eastbound lanes on the Arlington Expressway are reportedly closed.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — All eastbound lanes on the Mathews Bridge are currently closed due to a reported fatal motorcycleaccident, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says.

JSO reports that at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, a man in his early 30s was riding his motorcycle in the eastbound lanes. Witnesses told officers that he was traveling upwards of 100 mph.

At some point, JSO says that the man was either traveling between lanes or switching lanes when he had side-swiped the passenger side of a Dodge Charger in the left-hand lane, before ultimately striking the rear of a Ford F-150 in the right-hand lane. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded on scene, where they reported that the motorcyclist died at the scene. 

JSO says that lanes will remain closed until their on-scene investigation is complete.

This is the 26th traffic death in 2026 in Duval County and the seventh to include a motorcyclist.
