Update: The University of North Florida announced at 1:33 p.m. that the emergency is over and people can return to Building 50 and the surrounding area.

Building 50, the Science and Engineering Building, at the University of North Florida was evacuated Tuesday after a reported gas leak, according to an announcement sent out by the university.

According to the announcement, the “situation is currently under control” as the University’s Police Department and Jacksonville Fire Department have responded. The announcement states that people should stay clear of the area until further notice.

Building 50 was previously closed for a week after an electrical fire last October

In November, Building 50 was also evacuated after a report of it smelling like gas. A university spokesperson confirmed this incident was because of a Bunsen burner left on in a classroom.

This would be the third fire emergency at UNF in the last two weeks, following the vehicle fire on Feb. 5 and the brush fire on Feb. 10.
