The islands are invited out for two upcoming events at The Community House (TCH) on Sanibel.
TCH will present its Mardi Gras Carnevale Community Social on Feb. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. with tickets available, along with its monthly Arts & Crafts Fair on Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free entry.
COMMUNITY SOCIAL
The Mardi Gras Carnevale Community Social will feature entertainment, food and drinks.
Executive Director Emily Ankerson noted that it is part of a season series.
“We are hosting these, almost monthly, socials just to have something for people in the community to do that’s purely for fun and not anything fancy,” she said.
The theme for this event is a mashup of Mardi Gras and Carnevale.
“We’re trying to make it fun and timely,” Ankerson said.
Attendees can arrive ready for Mardi Gras or Carnevale.
“They can dress in a costume that matches or an outfit. It’s completely up to the people attending if they want to get into the spirit,” she said. “Plenty of people come to the events just as they are.”
Live music will be provided by The Hot Buttered Nuggets.
“The Hot Buttered Nuggets is a really fun group,” Ankerson said. “They get into themes, as well, so they’ll join our Mardi Gras-Carnevale vibe.”
Refreshments will be available.
“Some sort of hors d’oeuvres or appetizers,” she said. “And then we’ll have a cash bar.”
Sanibel Captiva Community Bank is the event sponsor.
“Thank you to Sanibel Captiva Community Bank for their generosity in supporting this event, as well as others,” Ankerson said.
R.L.R Investments is the season sponsor.
“We’d also like to thank R.L.R Investments, who has been supporting us throughout the season,” she said.
Tickets are $5 for members and $20 for non-members.
The public is encouraged to secure a spot.
“Come out and have fun with us,” Ankerson said. “Socialize with community members and visitors in a fun, Mardi Gras-Carnevale themed atmosphere, with good food and good music.”
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR
Taking place inside of TCH, the Arts & Crafts Fair is open to all.
“Throughout the season, they’re fun attractions for visitors and people in the community,” she said. “We try to support local artists and artisans with the shows for them to showcase their wares.”
There will be about 40 vendors taking part.
“It’s a variety,” Ankerson said. “From jewelry and ceramic artists, to woodcrafters and pottery.”
The Shellcrafters will offer shell bouquets and other shell pieces.
“We’ll have our very talented Sanibel Shellcrafters,” she said. “All the proceeds from their amazing creations benefit The Community House.”
The community is welcome to come out.
“Support local artists and artisans. Do a little shopping, a little sightseeing,” Ankerson said. “It’s something fun to do on a Sunday. Visit the farmers market and then stop by the Arts & Crafts Fair.”
