A service celebrating the life of Sonja “Sonny” June Koutsoutis will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m.
All are welcome.
Koutsoutis passed away at her Pine Island home on Dec. 13, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you complete a simple act of kindness for someone in need to honor her legacy of helping others, preferably while wearing her favorite color purple.
While Koutsoutis was not a native, Pine Island held a dear place in her heart. Her parents retired here in 1976, and after visiting them during their first Christmas on the island, she fell in love with the “Old Florida” feel and knew that she would eventually call Pine Island home as well.
Koutsoutis dabbled in many things, but her greatest passion was helping others. She took great pride in her work with Pine Island FISH (Fellow Islanders Sending Help). She served on the board of directors for the Pine Island Water Association Board for two terms.
She also advocated fiercely to protect the tranquility of Pine Island from development. She was a long-time ambassador for the American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State and was a proud member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
