Charlotte County is rolling out school zone speed enforcement cameras to boost safety.

The first phase starts on Feb. 27, 2026, with a 30-day warning period for drivers caught speeding.

Starting April 1, drivers exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph in school zones will face a $100 fine. Notices will be sent to the registered owner about three days after the violation.

Each violation will be recorded by cameras and reviewed by a law enforcement officer before citations are issued.

If you receive a violation notice, you can choose to pay the fine, submit an affidavit for an exception under Florida State Statute 316.1896(8), or request a hearing.

Cameras are installed in school speed zones at nine Charlotte County schools, including Lemon Bay High School and Port Charlotte High School.

The cameras will operate only on school days, 30 minutes before and after school hours. Specific times will be posted in each school zone.
