New Island football head coach Justin Midgett.
Island Coast today announce the hiring of Justin Midgett, an experienced football coach and former elite quarterback, as the program’s new
head football coach. With over 35 years in the game as both a player and coach, Midgett brings a proven track record of offensive innovation, player development and building winning cultures.
Midgett joins Island Coast after an illustrious coaching career highlighted by 18 years of high school experience, including seven years as an offensive coordinator. Most recently, he served as offensive coordinator at Fort Myers High School for four years, where he directed the offensive philosophy, play-calling, game planning, quarterback and skill-position development, and coordinated the offensive staff, film study and practice structure.
Prior to that, he spent 14 years at Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda, coaching at the freshman, JV and varsity levels, including three years as offensive coordinator. During his tenure as offensive coordinator at Charlotte High School and Fort Myers High School, he helped sustain long-term program consistency and emphasized player growth.
Coach Midgett was mentored by two Hall of Fame head coaches Binky Waldrop and Sam Sirianni Jr.
A standout player in his own right, Midgett earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Florida, where he was recognized as an Elite 11 Quarterback (nationally ranked #6 and #8), EA Sports All-American and All-State/All-East Coast Underclassman. He went on to
play professionally in Arena Football with the Florida Firecats, Alabama Steeldogs and Lubbock Renegades, as well as in Europe’s elite league with the Aix-En-Provence Argonauts in France.
In addition to his high school success, Midgett has served as an Elite 11 Quarterback Coach, providing national-level instruction focused on mechanics, leadership, decision-making and competitive preparation.
Dr. Michelle Cort, principal at Island Coast, said, “The Gator Family is excited to witness the heights that Coach Midgett can take the The Gator Football program under his tutelage.”
“Coach Midgett embodies everything we were looking for in a leader for our football program and cannot wait to watch him implement his culture and build the Gator Football program,” said Island Coast’s Athletic Director Jake Noland.
Midgett said, “I am incredibly honored and excited to lead the football program at Island Coast High School. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I could feel the passion and potential that defines Gator Nation. My mission is to build a championship-caliber program rooted in discipline, academic excellence and a relentless work ethic.”
Midgett further stated, “We aren’t just here to win games; we are here to develop young men of character who will lead both on the field and in the Cape Coral community. Our fans can expect a fast, physical and disciplined brand of football that makes this school proud every Friday night. It’s time to get to work and defend the Swamp.”
