ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Two people were charged with attempted murder in the first degree in the Feb. 11 shooting of an 18-year-old man, the St. Petersburg Police Department said in a news release.

Charles Hinton, 18, and Christopher Tonsel, 22, were also charged with robbery with a deadly weapon in the teen’s shooting.

The victim and another man met Hinton and Tonsel in the parking lot of the Citrus Grove Apartments in the 700 block of 15th Street South just before 5 p.m., police said.

The victim was sitting in the car’s front passenger seat.

Not long after Hinton and Tonsel climbed into the car’s backseat, Hinton pulled out a gun and fired, hitting the victim in the back of the neck, police said.

The two jumped out of the car and ran from the scene.

The driver drove one block away before seeking help at a convenience store in the 900 block of 16th Street South, police said.

The victim was brought to a local hospital, where he’s in stable condition.
