The City of Cape Coral has reported 506 accidents on local roads from 2020 to 2024 as part of its study to determine if the city qualifies for a speed limit decrease.Cape Coral resident Tara Boccia shared her experiences with road rage and speeding, saying, “There’s always an accident.”The study shows that Cape Coral meets state requirements to reduce speed limits to 25 miles per hour on all residential streets.Terry Matus, another resident, supports the idea of lowering speed limits.”Going down to 25 would be great because there’s kids, people walking dogs, all kinds of stuff going on,” Matus said. Matus also described the nighttime speeding issues.”The sun goes down and it gets to be crazy,” Matus added.The city has stated that police speeding enforcement would remain the same, but the council has yet to decide whether to implement any of the study’s findings.
