COCONUT CREEK, Fla. — Laila Standifer picked off two passes and Nia Ennis caught a touchdown as Coconut Creek stunned No. 14 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) 12-7 Tuesday in the Cougars’ season opener.

The victory gives Coconut Creek a 1-0 record to start the year, while the Raiders fall to 0-1.

Mylie Carlson completed 10-of-21 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown for the Cougars. Ennis was her primary target, hauling in eight receptions for 88 yards and the score. Ma’Kylah Menard added three catches for 14 yards.

Zamara Clarke provided the other score, finishing with three carries for 10 yards including the touchdown.

Defensively, Standifer’s two interceptions headlined a strong effort. Menard added a pick of her own, while Ennis and Precious Crowder each recorded a pass deflection, as did Kamille Sloan.

Diddy-Ann Griffiths handled punt return duties, bringing back one return for 7 yards. Ennis averaged 28.0 yards on two punts, with a long of 34.
