WASHINGTON — Jacksonville rapper Lil Poppa, born Janarious Mykel Wheeler, has died at age 25.
Georgia’s Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to WXIA that Wheeler is deceased. TMZ reported the rapper was pronounced dead at 11:23 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
A cause of death has not been released.
Lil Poppa signed with Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group (CMG) in 2022, following the success of his mixtape series Under Investigation. The last installment, “Under Investigation 3,” was released in 2022.
He released several albums in recent years, including “Almost Normal Again” last August. The project featured singles “Bout My Respect” and “Myself Again,” and included collaborations with Yungeen Ace and Mozzy.
Following the album’s release, Poppa embarked on the 20-date “Almost Normal Again Tour.” He also previously joined Rod Wave on the “Last Lap Tour.” He had an upcoming show scheduled for March 21 at The Fillmore in New Orleans.
He released his latest single, “Out of Town Bae,” on Feb. 13.
