A suspect was taken into custody after a pursuit in Miami-Dade involving Miccosukee Police Wednesday evening, officials said.
The incident began around 5:45 p.m. when officers tried to stop a vehicle near Krome Avenue and Tamiami Trail after receiving reports of an assault happening inside the vehicle, Miccosukee Police officials said.
The driver refused to stop and continued to flee, driving recklessly amd hitting a patrol vehicle while forcing civilian vehicles off the roadway, police said.
During the pursuit, an officer saw the suspect assaulting a female passenger before trying to run a patrol vehicle off the road, officials said.
Officers were eventually able to stop the vehicle in Medley, and the suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect was identified Thursday as 28-year-old Isbel Alejandro Diaz-Bauta, of Miami.
He was booked into jail on charges including aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, domestic violence battery, reckless driving, excessive speeding and a probation warrant, an arrest report said.
