Martin County is a perfect 10-0 against Port St. Lucie since February of 2020 and they’ll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers will face off against the Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. Martin County will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Martin County’s pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Wellington with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering the Tigers have won three games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday’s blowout was nothing new.
John Thornton IV made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thornton IV was also solid in the batter’s box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other pitching news, Landon Del Tufo looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Brennan Jones was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Grady Messner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Martin County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That’s the best OBP they’ve posted all season.
John Carroll Catholic hit Port St. Lucie with a seven-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars lost 14-4 to the Rams. The loss continues a trend for the Jaguars in their meetings with the Rams: they’ve now lost three in a row.
Anthony Resendiz was cooking despite his team’s loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he’s now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he’s played. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Taylor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Martin County’s record is now 4-0. As for Port St. Lucie, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Martin County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it’s not like Port St. Lucie struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging an even more impressive 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Martin County got the ‘W’ in their previous matchup back in February of 2025 against Port St. Lucie by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won’t have the home-field advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
