One of the area’s best and most underrated Mexican spots is now open for business in St. Pete’s Grand Central District. Chinelos Taqueria, a five-star favorite in Kenneth City, has launched an outpost at Pinellas Ale Works (1962 1st Ave S), open six days a week at the popular local brewery.

Chinelos Dos is on site Tuesday-Sunday at PAW, opening for dinner at 4 pm on weekdays and open all day and night on weekends beginning at noon. The lengthy menu features authentic Mexican eats with everything from loaded nacho fries and beef empanadas to beer-battered fish tacos, house-made birria, hefty burritos and chicken tinga tostadas. They even have scratch-made churros and a selection of Jarritos.

Of course, if you’re getting something to drink with your food, we highly recommend beer from PAW. The long-time St. Pete staple has some of the best beer in town, plus it comes with fun names like Puppy Breath, Milk Bone (a delicious stout), and the Wet Nose Wheat. I usually avoid doing beer flights (it’s more work for the bartender, and you miss out on the feel of a full pint in your hand), but PAW is one of the places I like to make an exception. They always have creative new brews worth trying, and then you can pair each Chinelos course with its own beer. Just be sure to thank the bartenders for the extra time and attention!

But back to the food. Chinelos has a permanent truck out back in the PAW beer garden, where you can place your order then head back to the table and wait for your food to come up. They brought over all their favorites from their flagship restaurants, including the popular tacos, burritos and quesadillas. They’ve also added a few new twists, getting that tasty PAW beer right from the source and using it to make things like those beer-battered fish tacos.

Online ordering is available, if you’d like to pick up your food to-go or if you just want to have the food ready as soon as you get to the brewery. PAW’s main bar is inside the front entrance, with the beer garden out back and an additional larger indoor space connected to both. If you need a third excuse to visit beyond tacos and beer, stop in for trivia night, or on $2 Taco Tuesdays. PAW also has a selection of ciders, seltzers, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Chinelos Dos just launched at the end of 2025, and we’re planning on getting our first taste soon. The ratings alone are enough to pique our interest, let alone the pictures or the smell wafting over the brewery. With 858 ratings on Google, Chinelos checks in with a stellar 4.9 average. That’s borderline impossible in this everyone’s-a-critic time we live in. To its credit, Chinelos Dos has a perfect 5.0, though that’s with only two ratings so far. Between both spots, we’re willing to round up to a perfect five stars overall.
