Warm and muggy for now, a BIG cooldown is on the horizon for Tallahassee, the Big Bend and South Georgia

  • February 20, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Temperatures are running 10 degrees above normal for late February, but don’t get too comfortable. A cold front approaching from the northwest will bring a dramatic shift in weather by early next week, along with freezing temperatures and frost concerns.

Warm and muggy with fog and a few showers

Warm and muggy this evening. The soupy air mass will allow for a few showers to pop across the Big Bend and South Georgia as a slow-moving cold front creeps closer. Highs will reach the low 80s.

Friday looks similar, with highs near 80 degrees and a 40% chance of rain. The air will feel muggy as moisture gets trapped beneath a layer of dry air aloft. Morning fog will be a concern, so allow extra time if you’re heading out early.

Saturday will be the wettest day of the extended outlook. Expect mostly cloudy skies with morning fog, scattered showers throughout the day, and a 60% chance of rain. It will still feel muggy despite the cloud cover and rain chances.

Any rain will be appreciated, as the latest drought monitor shows the expansion of extreme drought across North Florida and South Georgia. The majority of the area is suffering in the second-to-worst drought category despite the recent rain.

Big Changes Sunday

Sunday marks a turning point. The cold front will finally push through the region, ending the unsettled weather pattern. Conditions will clear and temperatures will drop significantly. Highs will only reach the 60s.

The freeze threat arrives Monday morning. Temperatures will dip near freezing, with lows in the 20s. Monday itself will be sunny with highs in the mid to upper 50s.

Frost and freeze conditions are likely Tuesday morning, with lows again in the 20s. Highs on Tuesday afternoon will only reach the upper 50s.

Wednesday will see another possible night near or below freezing, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 60s. This will be the first widespread freeze event since early February.
