TAMPA, FL — A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting during a Sunday night cookout at a Tampa home, authorities said.

Aniel Avidan Galo-Chavez was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder, Tampa police said in a news release. He was booked into Orient Road Jail.

Officers found a man in his mid-40s dead from a gunshot wound when responding to reports of a shooting at a home in the 3000 block of W. Spruce Street on Sunday.

A group of people were at the home for the cookout when numerous arguments and physical fights broke out, police said.

One fight between Galo-Chavez, another man and the victim turned physical. The fight ended when the victim disengaged and left the room.

Galo-Chavez then went into a bedroom, returned armed with a gun and shot the unarmed victim, police said. A gun was recovered at the scene.

“This incident is a tragic reminder that conflicts should not be resolved with violence,” Chief Lee Bercaw said. “A disagreement has now resulted in the permanent loss of a life and devastating consequences for everyone involved. Our detectives will always remain committed to thorough investigations to ensure justice is pursued.”
