Countless people online reported hearing a sonic boom in Port St. Lucie and Vero Beach the evening of Feb. 19.

At 8:41 p.m. Feb. 19 SpaceX launched the Falcon 9 rocket carrying 29 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

During the landing, residents may have heard one or more sonic booms, according to SpaceX’s website. This is because the booster is speeding back from space faster than sound.

The booster landed on the Just Read the Instructions drone ship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the Bahamas. This is the second time SpaceX has landed that far south, the first was in Feb. 2025.
