A man was arrested after police say he shot his father to death in front of his mother at a home in Port St. Lucie and then fled the scene.

The shooting happened at around 7:46 a.m. on Tuesday at 5933 Northwest Ketona Circle.

According to the witness, she heard her husband, Glen Morrison, and son, Sheldon Morrison, arguing in the garage before shots were fired, and then saw her husband lying on the ground.

The father and son had been arguing about taking the dog out, the witness said. When she went into the garage to try and stop the fighting, she told police that she saw her husband looking “very agitated and angered,” while her son appeared “calm.”

A man was arrested after police say he shot his father to death in front of his mother at a home in Port St. Lucie and then fled the scene.

“During the verbal argument she observed Glen banging water containers around. At one point Glen aggressively walked up very close to her. He did not touch her nor did she think he would have,” police said.

That’s when the victim’s son went into the house through the garage door.

“Within a few seconds,” which police say is long enough for him to walk to him room and back, “Sheldon came back into the garage.”

Then, the witness heard a bang, and turned to find Sheldon “holding a firearm pointed at the direction of Glen.” Police said he fired at least eight shots.

When the witness asked her son why he shot his father, he allegedly said, “I thought he was going to hit you.”

Sheldon Morrison then left the home and drove away in a beige Cadillac.

Authorities searched for Morrison until they eventually found and arrested him on Wednesday. He was booked on one count of first-degree murder.

Police said that according to the witness, the family has no history of physical violence, and she had never seen her son with a weapon. She also said her son is “not diagnosed with any type of mental health issue nor does she know if uses any type of narcotics.”

Authorities said Morrison has no criminal history.
