The Sanibel Sea School has a free Community Camp coming up, plus a Spring Break Camp.
Open to ages 6-13, the Community Camp will be held on March 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the flagship campus on Sanibel. The topic for the day will be “Ospreys: Soar & Splash.”
Also known as sea or fish hawks, ospreys are brown and white raptors that dive for fish on the beach. With it being peak breeding season, campers will scan the skies in a birding bonanza and find some nests, hopefully spotting some hatchlings. They will learn what it takes to protect the species and how they are representative of successful conservation efforts. There will be games, art and ocean time.
Registration will open on Feb. 27 at 10 a.m.
It will also open for camp Counselors in Training (CITs), ages 13-17.
Open to ages 10 and older, the Spring Break Camp will take place on March 16-20 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the flagship campus. The topic for the week will be “Art for the Ocean Week.”
Where creativity meets the coast, the art-meets-nature camp will invite young artists to dive into inspiration each day. Mornings will be spent exploring the beach and water through snorkeling, seining and beachcombing, gathering ideas straight from the natural world, while afternoons will transform those discoveries into works of art through painting, pottery, mixed media and more. Along the way, campers will learn how art can be a powerful form of self-expression and a meaningful way to share messages of ocean protection and conservation. The week will culminate in a special art show.
The cost is $375 per camper.
Registration will open on March 2 at 10 a.m.
