TAMPA — Police arrested a man after an argument escalated into a shooting that left another man critically injured, authorities said.

Emanuel Watson, 33, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a weapon and possession of a controlled substance, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 4 p.m. Feb. 16 near North 27th Street and East 97th Avenue, police said. They found a man in his late 30s with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Officers gave the victim emergency medical care before Tampa Fire Rescue took him to a hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition Feb. 17, police said.

Watson and the victim knew each other, and the shooting followed a verbal argument that turned physical, according to investigators. Watson pulled a gun and shot the man multiple times before running from the scene, police said.

Officers found Watson hiding in the backyard of a home on the 10000 block of North 26th Street, where he was arrested without incident, police said.

Watson was booked into the Orient Road Jail.
