The “Teddy Bridgewater Act” is moving through Florida’s legislature. Bridgewater is a current NFL player with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former star quarterback for the University of Louisville. In 2024, he retired from the NFL and took a position as head coach of his former high school football team: Miami-Northwestern Senior High School in Miami.He was suspended from that position after he provided “impermissible benefits to players.” Bridgewater personally paid for Uber rides, pregame meals and athletic recovery for some. He says he self-reported the payments to the school.Bridgewater received an outpouring of support after his suspension. That inspired a bill to allow coaches to spend up to $15,000 in personal funds on their team.The Florida Senate passed the bill unanimously, voting 38-0 in its favor.It now heads to the Florida House of Representatives. If passed there, it will head to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk to be signed into law.
