MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier joined local officials and community partners Friday at Camillus House in Miami to announce a major expansion of resources aimed at combating human trafficking in Miami-Dade County.
The initiative includes a first-of-its-kind memorandum between the Attorney General’s Office, the statewide prosecutor’s office, and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Human Trafficking Task Force. The agreement provides $1.5 million in funding to strengthen investigations, prosecutions, and victim support services across the county.
“Human trafficking is one of the greatest dangers we face today,” Uthmeier said. “This is about protecting the most vulnerable, rescuing victims, and holding perpetrators accountable.”
The press conference highlighted the roles of Camillus House, Kristi House, and other local organizations that provide housing, trauma-informed care, and legal support for victims of trafficking. Amanda Altman, CEO of Christie’s House, emphasized the importance of wraparound services for survivors.

“This investment ensures that traffickers are aggressively pursued and that victims receive the stability and opportunity needed for recovery,” Altman said.
State Attorney Kathy Fernandez Rundel called the partnership a “clear message” to traffickers: exploitation will not be tolerated in Miami-Dade. The task force, she noted, has handled nearly 950 human trafficking-related cases and assisted over 1,300 victims, highlighting Miami-Dade’s unique vulnerabilities as an international tourism hub hosting events like the FIFA World Cup and the Miami Open.
