Central Florida braces for strong cold front. How much rain is expected?

  • February 21, 2026

ORLANDO, FLa. – Another strong cold front arrives Sunday morning, bringing a blast of colder air and gusty winds, but very little in the way of widespread rain.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor, released Thursday, shows conditions have actually worsened in a few counties across Central Florida. That’s despite many spots picking up measurable rain last Sunday.

Right now, forecast models aren’t overly encouraging. Both the GFS (Global Forecast System) and the European model (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) indicate most areas could see less than a tenth of an inch of rain.

At this point, Sunday’s front doesn’t appear likely to make much of a dent in the ongoing drought — but we’ll take whatever drops we can get.
