ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida man faces felony charges after allegedly pulling a gun during a gym dispute, later claiming the weapon was actually a king-size Snickers bar.
Authorities say 45-year-old Winston Medley approached a group of men using weights at the Crunch Fitness in Altamonte Springs gym on Tuesday and made comments about their workout.
The situation reportedly escalated into an argument, with one man walking away to use equipment in another area, but Medley followed him, repeatedly asking him if he “had a problem,” according to reports obtained by WESH.
The victim allegedly told Medley he was aggressive and needed to stop — that’s when the victim says Medley pulled a gun and pointed it at his face.
Court documents reveal the victim ran in fear for his life.
“That puts people on edge. You know you don’t know who is next to you in the gym anymore,” Blake Safford, a regular at Crunch Fitness, told WESH. “You don’t know who you’re walking next to or what’s on their mind or what they’re going to do.”
When officers with the Altamonte Springs Police Department stopped Medley, he initially claimed the gun was a “king-size Snickers bar.”

He eventually confessed that the gun was fake and that he only pulled it out to scare others; whether it was fake or not is yet to be determined because a gun has not been recovered.
“I’m a native of this area, born and raised, and this stuff never used to happen in my community growing up. And now, to see this happening in the community that you know I’m born and raised in and now raising my own kids in it’s scary,” Safford added. “It’s like what’s happening.”
Medley now faces attempted homicide, among other charges.
